There are many reasons why young people drink alcohol

Alcohol is the most commonly used drug in the UK and Isle of Man. Most teenagers will experiment with it, and at some point they might drink too much. This can affect them in many ways but there are things you can do to help. Drinking alcohol at an early age is linked to health problems in later life and if habitual may lead to difficulties socially.

HOW MUCH IS IN A DRINK?

The recommended amount of alcohol for adults is:
For women – 1 to 2 units a day, no more than 14 in a week spread throughout the week.
For men – 2 to 3 units a day, no ore than 21 in a week spread throughout the week.
There is no recommended safe limit set for young people. Their bodies aren’t fully developed, including their brain.

Be honest about the why you feel the way you do.
Listen to what they have to say
Consider your own alcohol use, you are an important role model.
